Campground Master is the odd one out on our list, and in some ways the most honest deal: one payment, no monthly bill. This page compares it with CampStack using Campground Master's own public pages, checked on October 25, 2026.

Where Campground Master is genuinely good
- The price. $795 once, and the vendor says there are no monthly fees. Over several seasons that is hard to beat on software cost alone.
- No per-reservation cost. Busy years cost the same as quiet ones, which is our own pitch too.
- Fast to start. The site says most campgrounds can be up and running within a day.
- Simple and focused. A grid occupancy view, arrivals and departures lists, and the things a front office does every morning.
- Personal support. Phone or email with a real person, not a ticket queue, according to the vendor.
- Works offline. It is installed on your computer, so a flaky internet connection does not stop the office. That is a real advantage for rural parks, and CampStack cannot match it.
- Your data stays on your computer.
- Good documentation on exporting. The help manual clearly explains how to export your data, which is the first thing any owner should ask about.
If your park wants a reliable program for the front desk and takes most reservations by phone or walk-in, this is a perfectly reasonable choice. We would not argue you out of it.
Where CampStack is different
- It runs anywhere. Browser, tablet, phone, any computer. No Windows requirement. Your staff can check the grid from a golf cart.
- Online booking in the same plan. CampStack has a hosted booking page and a widget for your own website, with live availability. Campground Master connects to a separate booking engine from Leisure Interactive, so online booking is a second company and a second price.
- Payments go straight to your bank through Stripe Connect.
- Backups are our job. You do not have to remember to copy a database to a USB stick.
- Updates are included. No version to install.
- Remote access built in. Campground Master mentions optional networking for remote access. In CampStack, the cloud is the default.
The tradeoff is simple. You pay $490 a year for CampStack instead of $795 once.
The math over time
There are no per-booking fees on either side, so the math does not depend on how many bookings you take. It depends on how many years you stay.
| Years | Campground Master | CampStack, yearly plan | CampStack, monthly plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $795 | $490 | $588 |
| 2 | $795 | $980 | $1,176 |
| 3 | $795 | $1,470 | $1,764 |
| 5 | $795 | $2,450 | $2,940 |
At 300, 800 or 1,500 bookings a season, these numbers do not change, because neither product charges per booking. Campground Master's cost is $795 at all three. CampStack's is $490 a year at all three.
Break-even on the yearly plan is a little over 19 months: 795 divided by 490 is 1.62 years. From the second year on, Campground Master is the cheaper of the two. We are saying this on purpose. If all you want is a front-desk program and you are happy with a computer in the office, the lower number wins.
Under the CampStack launch offer, the software is free until your first 25 online bookings, which can push the first year's cost lower still.
What the table leaves out: Campground Master's page does not say whether updates, a new version or support carry later charges. It also says online reservations run through Leisure Interactive's booking engine, which has its own pricing, and that a payment gateway can add a small cost per transaction. Add those if they apply to you. Also, a Windows PC eventually needs replacing, and your data has to move with it.
Cloud or desktop: the honest tradeoffs
Desktop (Campground Master): lower cost over time, works without internet, data stays in your office. You handle backups, updates and the computer. Remote access is optional and takes setup. One computer holds your whole business, so keep a backup.
Cloud (CampStack): works from any device, includes online booking and payouts, and we handle backups and updates. It needs internet, and it costs a monthly or yearly fee.
If your internet at the office is unreliable, think hard before moving to the cloud. If your guests keep asking to book online, think hard before staying on the desktop.
What to ask Campground Master before you buy
- What does the online booking engine cost on top of the $795, and what does card processing cost per transaction?
- If there is a new version in three years, is the upgrade free?
- What does support cost after the first year, if anything?
- What does it take to run the program on a second computer, or from home?
- If my office computer dies, how do I restore my data?
Their page is short on these answers. A short phone call will fill the gaps, and you should ask for the answers in an email so you have them in writing.
Switching from Campground Master
Campground Master is the best documented of the systems we looked at.
- In the File menu, choose "Export Current View" for any tab view report, or use the "Export List" button on dialogs with a grid. Ctrl-F10 does the same.
- The result is a CSV with a header row, exactly as it appears on screen, with every field in quotes.
- Raw data tables can be exported from Maintenance, then Raw Data Tables. The manual does not list the table names, so look at your screen.
- Export a customer list, your site list, your reservations from today forward, and your rates. Include arrival, departure, customer, rate, deposit and balance if the columns are available.
Watch out for dates, which follow your office computer's Windows regional settings. Site names must match between the reservation and site files. Customers and reservations may be linked by an ID, so keep that column. CampStack handles quoted fields correctly, so the file works as is. See the switch guide for the full list.
Who should choose which
Choose Campground Master if you want the lowest software cost, you are comfortable with a Windows computer in the office, or your internet is unreliable.
Choose CampStack if you want online booking from one company at one price, you want your staff to use any device, or you do not want to manage backups and updates.
